How we calculate

Data

Filters

Brands state replacement intervals under different assumptions: hours per day, fan mode, or cigarettes per day. When a brand states its daily hours, we rescale the interval to your hours (default 8 h/day). Otherwise we show the interval as stated and say so.

Yearly filter cost = filter price × 12 ÷ interval in months.

Electricity

An appliance's running cost is how much it adds to your TNB bill. That is not simply its kWh times one rate, because of how the domestic tariff works:

We compute your bill with and without the appliance, averaged over ±50 kWh around your usage. The resulting cost of one extra kWh:

Home uses aboutExtra kWh costs
300 kWh/month44.0 sen
500 kWh/month50.7 sen
700 kWh/month51.7 sen
900 kWh/month57.1 sen
1200 kWh/month52.8 sen

Model pages use 500 kWh a month and also show 900 kWh.

Our reading where TNB does not spell it out: AFA and KWTBB are applied to every kWh of a non-exempt month. KWTBB is 1.6% of energy + capacity + network − incentive + AFA. Service tax is charged on the share of usage above the threshold. Under the alternative reading (tax on the whole bill) the result differs only for homes near the threshold.
